Interview transcript pdf font problem

I am trying to print an interview transcript (pdf file).
The interview was conducted with translation (Arabic).

I got the pdf file but has font problem. The pdf summary (section names) to the left is displayed correctly (in Arabic). However the transcript body shows squares instead of letters/text. I suspect that it is either the pdf conversion software can only work in latin OR there are missing additional fonts.

Could you point which one is the case here. And if it is the latter, can we just install the font in the OS, or the fonts need to come with survey solution’s installer.

This issue is known and documented.

Here is an example PDF transcript document from the Demo server. the screenshot shows what fonts are used in this document when it is produced in the server:

Absence of these fonts on the server will prevent the document from being generated correctly.

I downloaded and installed the fonts above (Noto_Sans, Noto_Sans_Arabic) for all users but still having the squares.

I did restart the server see this but I am getting the same.

  1. please confirm that you are using Survey Solutions software installed from https://github.com/surveysolutions/surveysolutions/ or if it was obtained from any other source, vendor or distributor, please identify.

  2. please send the screenshot of the Document Properties of the generated transcript document showing which fonts are being referred to. (see my screenshot above).

  3. please open the generated transcript document on the very server where it was produced and confirm that the Arabic characters are displayed correctly there.

  4. if you can, share the generated transcript document.

  1. We are compiling the source code of github (24.06.6.36815-master) and generating the exe installer.

  4. Fonts are installed in local machine [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]

I deleted the Latin Noto Sans font, the transcript change as below: The letters are Arabic but they are not contextualized.

In both cases, the left menu summary displays good Arabic.
