Unable to import French assignments with accents

Please help. I’m trying to import assignments for a survey in French, and the accents return an error: “PL0014 : Question value not allowed.”

I’m unclear as to why this is happening because, using info from other posts I’ve read, I’ve saved this in TextEdit (Mac version of notepad) using a UTF-8 encoding (saves as .txt by default, but I can choose to save as .tab), and it doesn’t work

Update: This issue persists, even when I remove the French accents from the text.

The first variable (m1s0q2_name) is also a radio button/single select option in the form. So as a third variation, I updated the values in this column to one of the three selection options from the form and I also receive the same error.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

You are getting a PL0014 error for your preloading data file. Follow the recommendation for this error here: Errors in user-supplied files for preloading

Thanks, Sergiy, for your input and linking the page. As I noted in my follow-up post, the first variable (m1s0q2_name) is a categorical variable with specific values. I had tried to upload a file with relevant values for that variable (in both English and French) and continued to get this error. This is the only categorical variable in the file (4 variables + responsible) and I copied it directly. If you have other ideas, please let me know.

Categorical variables should be preloaded with numerical categories codes: put 1 to your file for “Ministry of Education (or equivalent)”.

Thanks, Sergiy! This is so obvious I could cry

Hope this worked. You can pinpoint the solution post with the :check_box_with_check: icon to indicate to other users what have resolved this difficulty.

Good luck with your survey!
