Is it possible to change (lower) the resolution of the photo captured, or increase the compression level?

Currently I am seeing photos with a size of 800KB to 1MB, and would like to reduce the size to under 200KB to reduce the data being synced back to HQ.

Dear Jeremy,

thank you for your question. Survey Solutions does not provide any additional settings to control the quality or size of the photos. The image capture dialog of Android OS may provide such additional settings (such as 1M, 3M, 5M for megapixels, fine/super-fine for quality, etc) but this is model dependent.

Dear Phil,

many users needed to capture images of documents and that requires higher resolution of the images. So the binary picture files may be of significant size.

At the same time, the camera settings on the device may be utilized to force lower-than-optimal resolution, which is what you probably need, see tip #20 here: https://www.androidpit.com/galaxy-note-4-tips (external link).

The dialog and options may be presented differently in different OS versions and different devices.

Kindly instruct the interviewers to select a lower resolution to produce smaller image files. Most tablets will permit 640x480 or similar size resolution for capturing very small images.

Hi Sergiy,

Thanks for following up but ‘tip #20’ you refer to above only modifies the output from the Camera ‘app’ - it’s not an OS or hardware setting, so doesn’t change the size of images captured by the Interviewer app.
