Interviewer App tabs

Hi Survey Solutions team.

Recently in a training to interviewers we got an error with some users.

The interviewers has been working (aswering) some interviews but when they move in the interview to at the section Complete and touch the button Complete the interview don’t pass at the tab “Finished”.

In this case, we should to say our interviewers, loggout in the Interviewer App and then close the Interviewer App.

Our tecnichal information in our devices are:

We are about to conduct a pilot test in the field and we would like to know about this error.

For users of 19.11 and newer versions, if the same problem occurs, also include the device logs as described in the release notes for v19.11.

Also the continuous trying to the interviewers generate this.

Sorry but I only have this information:

  3. Date and time when the problem was last experienced: november 21, 2019 time bewteen 14:00 p.m. - 15:00 p.m. (UTC-06:00) America Central
  4. Version of the Android operating system on the tablet of the affected interviewer: Android 8.0.0 O(26)
  5. Survey Solutions Interviewer App version on the tablet of the affected interviewer: 19.10.4 (build 26078)

The sequence of actions for all the interviews was:

that is too simplistic. You have 5 interviews on assignment 1327 - so we need 5 pictures like this, plus the history of the assignment 1327. At least. If tablet supervisor is involved - that’s even more complications.

Kevin, taking into account your first post in this thread here is what I think happened:

  1. Interviewer MVasquez has received assignment 1327 for 2 interviews.
  2. He completed one interview
  3. The interview didn’t appear at the completed page and the counter of new interviews still shows 2 needed. (BUG)
  4. He completed second interview.
  5. The interview didn’t appear at the completed page and the counter of new interviews still shows 2 needed. (BUG)
  6. He completed third interview.
  7. The interview didn’t appear at the completed page and the counter of new interviews still shows 2 needed. (BUG)
  8. He completed 4th interview.
  9. The interview didn’t appear at the completed page and the counter of new interviews still shows 2 needed. (BUG)
  10. He completed 5th interview
  11. The interview didn’t appear at the completed page and the counter of new interviews still shows 2 needed. (BUG)
  12. The interviewer restarted the App
  13. The interviewer App reviewed the interviews collected and rebuilt the dashboard to reflect 5 interviews collected (the data is never lost!) and the assignment card is now frozen since no more interviews are needed.
  14. The interviewer synced to the server.

To prevent this from happening I see the only possibility is:
if the interview didn’t appear on ‘Completed’ page after complete button was pressed, immediately logout and restart the application. This should reduce the counter on the assignment and properly place the interview on the ‘Completed’ page, preventing the above from occurring.

We will further investigate why the several fixes that we applied to this problem since it was first reported in July 2019 didn’t fully resolve it. The technical information on the tablet that you’ve provided will be helpful in this process.

If you have time for further testing, please use the demo server for testing since it has the most up-to-date version of Survey Solutions (your server has 19.10.4 and the tablet was running 19.10.2). If the issue is not reproducible with demo server, this will reinforce the confidence that the improvements in the recent versions have taken care of this.

  • The interviewer App reviewed the interviews collected and rebuilt the dashboard to reflect 5 interviews collected (the data is never lost!) and the assignment card continuos showing that one interview are needed.
  • The interviewer synced to the server.
